AVF scores consistent Top-5 results at Nurburgring

The AVF team, providing assistance to SMP Racing in the 2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5, ended their Friday run on a positive note today at the Nurburgring, in the opening day for the sixth round of the series. The Spanish squad led by Adrián Vallés brought both cars to a top-5 result in qualifying 1, scheduled on Friday to accomodate the FIA WEC activity. Matevos Isaakyan was able to secure third place, while Egor Orudzhev rounded out the top-5 positions.

The day proved complicated, as both drivers went off at turn 5 in the closing stages of Collective Test 1 and rain came later in the day to make qualifying even more challenging. Orudzhev, running with slick tires at the end of the session, was the only man on track to improve his position, from sixth to fifth, thus gaining a spot on the cleanest part of the starting grid, right on the tail of his fellow countryman and team-mate.

Qualifying 2 will go underway tomorrow at 12:35 followed by race 1 at 16:10.

    Matevos Isaakyan

“The day was made more complicated by an engine issue which we don’t know if we have solved yet. All considered, third place is literally a miracle because we were able to use our full potential going even beyond our possibilities. The guys are set to pull an all-nighter in order to prepare the car in the best possible way for tomorrow.”

    Egor Orudzhev

“Practice had gone pretty well but then the changing weather conditions compromised the outcome of qualifying a bit. At that point we decided to go out on slick tires and the risk paid off. I could have done even better, but I preferred not to risk too much, making the most out of sector 3 to hand the team a great result.”
